For many years, I searched for a passion. Some thing or hobby that I could devote myself to and truly enjoy. I made several attempts to find this passion, from golf and skiing, to even being a season ticket holder for my favorite hockey team. I kept coming up empty. In August 2019, shortly after my 30th birthday, I discovered Adventure Motorcycling, and in a larger sense, Adventure Travel, and I haven’t looked back.

What is Adventure Travel?

Adventure travel is a hobby that involves exploring new places and ways of life through activities that are challenging, both physically and mentally. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself in new and exciting experiences. Whether you’re riding a dual-sport motorcycle through a National Forest, hiking in a State Park, or simply visiting one of America’s many small towns, adventure travel is about embracing the unknown and discovering what you’re truly capable of. Think of it as a rewarding type of tourism.

One of the benefits of adventure travel is the sense of accomplishment that it brings. Getting to these places is not easy. Remember, the person you meet on top of a mountain didn’t fall there. If you’re backpacking the Appalachian Trail, riding an expert section of a BDR, or even driving through a National Park, you’ll feel a sense of pride and satisfaction knowing that you’ve stepped into the unknown, you’ve pushed yourself to the limit and succeeded.

Adventure Travel allows you to escape the daily grind and connect with nature. For me, the separation of myself from the stresses and worries of everyday life is essential. America is full of beautiful public land. Spending time in the great outdoors away from distraction is incredibly rejuvenating. It’s a chance to unplug and reconnect with the world around you.

Another cool thing about adventure travel is that it allows you to experience new places. By simply being there, you can broaden your perspective of the world around you. Ohio is different from, say, Arizona or even Tennessee. People and culture vary from place to place. You have an opportunity to learn about customs and traditions in different regions and on a larger scale, the planet.

Adventure Travel is also a great way to make new friends and create lasting memories. There are so many different communities and networks of outdoor recreational hobbyists. In the adventure riding community, there are the forums of advrider.com. There are also numerous facebook groups and so on. Events and meetups of all kinds happen throughout the year for hiking, backpacking, and motorcycling.

Why Should You Try It?

So why should you try it? Because adventure travel was made for everyone. There has never been a time where it has been more accessible to get into outdoor recreation. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on gear to get a taste of this wonderful hobby. All you need to do is simply be there. The United States is home to some of the most diverse landscapes in the world. With an abundance of National Forests, National Parks and beyond, adventure travel is an incredible way to discover new places, push yourself to the limit, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, step out your front door and embrace the unknown. The world is waiting for you!
