Adventure Travel has changed my life.

It’s about challenging yourself and experiencing the world around you in a new and exciting way. Whether you’re riding an ADV motorcycle through a remote wilderness, or simply exploring a small town, adventure travel offers an unparalleled sense of freedom and fulfillment.

For a short time in 2022, I worked in a Honda automobile factory assembling the Honda Accord. It was a fun job with some awesome folks. It’s the kind of job where the phrase “every second counts” really takes meaning. Part of what makes Honda a distinguished company is something from their philosophy: The 3 Joys.

Honda believes that each person who comes into contact with a Honda product; by buying, selling, or creating, should share a sense of joy through that experience. Whether you’re a Honda person or not, I believe we can all experience joy in the things we do everyday.

Here are what I consider the 3 joys of Adventure Travel, in no particular order of course.

The Joy of Accomplishment

Adventure Travel is challenging. No matter your mode of transportation, there are sure to be obstacles to overcome along the way. While hiking through the Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia, there was a creek crossing. They must have a different definition of “creek” in the Mountain State, because to me this was a raging river. Not to mention it was about 40° outside. I waded my way through the rapids, slipping around on the large rocks, but I made it to the other side. The feeling of overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals is truly exhilarating. The physical and mental challenges of adventure travel help to build confidence, resilience, and self-reliance.

The Joy of Embracing the Unknown

It can be a little intimidating to be in a place that you’re unfamiliar with. Have you ever looked for a place to camp in bear country? Wandered through a city in a foreign country? Traveling to remote and off-the-beaten-path destinations allows you to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around you. From trying new foods and meeting people, to camping and exploring in a whole other country, the experiences you have while adventure traveling will stay with you for a lifetime.

The Joy of Nature

Adventure travel also offers a chance to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with nature. Whether you’re rafting down a wild river, trekking through a pristine rainforest, or camping under the stars, adventure travel is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with the natural world. There’s something about being there that just feels peaceful. For example, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I’m not sure if it’s the trees or the clean rivers, but there’s a vibe that is just relaxing and satisfying when you’re inside the park boundaries.

Lost at Last Adventure Travel was founded to help people experience these same joys that I feel when I’m out there.

If you’re looking for a positive change in your life, Adventure travel is an extraordinary way to challenge yourself and experience the world in a new and exciting way. It offers the sense of accomplishment, the opportunity to embrace the unknown, the chance to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with nature and it’s a great way to meet like minded people. There’s never been a better time than now to explore the world around you. So what are you waiting for? We’ll see you out on the trail!
