About the Section 3 GOAT Loop
The Section 3 GOAT Loop is a scenic, 125 mile adventure route through Lawrence and Gallia County, Ohio. The route consists of tight-winding forest roads, twisty pavement, and isolated dirt roads with wide open views. This GOAT Loop begins and ends at the Vesuivus Iron Furnace, located in the heart of the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area. Camping ($) is available at Oak Hill or Iron Ridge Campgrounds. Reservations must be made two days in advance through recreation.gov. Dispersed camping (free) is available throughout the forest.
The loop is rated as a beginner to intermediate adventure route and is big bike friendly. Overland vehicles will have no issues traversing the loop. All roads are public, and all vehicles must be properly registered, plated, and insured.
GOAT Loops were developed to provide an opportunity for adventure travelers to explore on and around different sections of the Great Ohio Adventure Trail over the course of a single day on a looping route.
