Get ready for more at the 3rd annual Fall Camp N Ride on Section 5 of the Great Ohio Adventure Trail
This year, the Fall Camp N Ride is now a two-day ADV riding event! More gravel & dirt, more exploration, more adventure. We’ll ride deep into the heart of some of the best riding found on the Great Ohio Adventure Trail, just as the fall foliage hits its peak. Last year, over 60 of us took off from the Big Muskie Bucket and ended a great day around the campfire at Jesse Owens State Park. Primitive, free camping is available for tents and small trailers. There is no electric or running water.
This year, we do it all over again—and then some. Let’s give the 2025 adventure riding season the send-off it deserves. We’ll see you at the Fall Camp N Ride!
About GOAT Section 5
Section 5 is arguably the heart of the Great Ohio Adventure Trail, and home to some of Ohio’s finest ADV terrain. Section 5 begins at Burr Oak State Park and dives right into the Athens Unit of Wayne National Forest. Beautiful forest roads and the Adams-San Toy Covered Bridge await. The route crosses the Muskingum River and into McConnelsville, the county seat of Morgan County. Home to the smallest Kroger in the United States, McConnelsville is a great place to stop for food and fuel. Section 5 then opens up as you enter the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area. Be sure to stop by the Big Muskie Bucket, the last remaining piece of the largest single-shoveled earth moving machine ever constructed, which now serves as the Ohio Miners’ Memorial. Unionville Road boasts one of the most wide-open views in all of the state. The GOAT sticker stash is located shortly after on Onion Run Road. Section 5 ends at the Lafayette Hotel in downtown Marietta after covering some truly wonderful township roads.
Also featured in this area is the Section 5 GOAT Loop, a 116-mile loop, perfect for a day ride. Beginning and ending at the famous Big Muskie Bucket, this looping ADV touring route features some of the best adventure riding in Ohio. From the tight, winding two-track roads through the Wolf Creek Wildlife Area, to wide open vistas found along Unionville Road, this loop has something for everyone to enjoy.
Camp N Ride Area Overview
Camping Information
All camping within Jesse Owens State Park is fee-free, first come-first serve, with no reservations. This means there is no cost to camp for the entire weekend! However, this also means that there is limited space at Hook Lake Campground; you may need to camp in one of the other campgrounds located nearby if no spots are available or share a space with a fellow Camp N Ride attendee. Each campground is primitive, meaning there is no electric or running water at the campground. You must bring your own water. Please plan accordingly. There are multiple outhouse-style latrines located throughout each campground. Each spot has a picnic table and fire ring.
Hook Lake Campground
Hook Lake (also referred to as campground A) located on State Route 83 five minutes north of the Big Muskie Bucket will serve as the primary campground for the Section 5 Fall Camp N Ride. This campground provides the easiest access for those with trailers to pull in. Lost at Last will be set up at Site 14 on the loop.
Sand Hollow Campground
Sand Hollow (also referred to as Campground C) located on Horse Run Road six minutes north of the Big Muskie Bucket is the first alternate campground for the Section 5 Fall Camp N Ride. This campground has a ton of spots which would be good for those riding in or hauling a bike in the back of a vehicle.
Sawmill Campground
Sawmill (also referred to as Campground D) is also located on State Route 83 about 10 minutes north of the Big Muskie Bucket. This is a smaller campground with good sites for trailers/campers. There is even a site with a covered bridge access. This would serve as the second alternate.
There is no electric or running water at the campgrounds. You must bring your own water.
Lodging Information
Ride Information
We will meet each morning at the Big Muskie Bucket (located about 3 miles from the campground) for a riders’ meeting at 9:30am. From there we will split into groups for guided rides (if joining a ride). If you are doing a self-guided ride, you are free to take off after the meeting. Please arrive to the meeting fueled up and ready to ride with enough fuel for approximately 60 miles.
Those showing up just for a day ride with a vehicle or trailer are strongly encouraged to park at the campground as to not take up parking spots intended for visitors of the Ohio Miner’s Memorial.
There are two loops for guided rides for this year, an east loop and a west loop. The east loop will have more two-track and intermediate sections, while the west loop will feature more scenic and historic places. Both rides offer great opportunity to experience the fantastic adventure riding found in this area. GPX files (once finalized) will be sent out via email to those who are registered.
